Exercise. The only thing that works with no side effects apart from looking awesome(like me, LOL)
I think breathing deeply and reminding yourself that “you’re not the first person to do that nor the last person, so everything will be okey” helps.
also try making more friends and becoming more social. participate in events or activities. It may feel akward for a first couple of times but looking back you’ll feel just normal ;-).
never seclude yourself in isolation.
take deep breaths.
tense your body as much as you can, and then slowly relax one part of your body at a time.
think positive thoughts…picture yourself at a happy place, like your favorite beach
think about something really funny. i will watch one episode of family guy and im laughing out loud.
light a candle with lavender or vanilla in it.
take a yoga class, paint a picture, do a pottery class. whatever relaxes you!
Practice positive thinking and stay so busy you cant think!
I tend to get distressed in social situations too. As far as the unwanted thoughts– I used to obsess over certain things and couldn’t get them out of my head. It about drove me insane~ seriously! I had a friend come over one day and began to help me through that rough patch. Anyone could do the same thing though- without someone’s help. She asked me what was wrong- we started at the beginning. She wrote things down on a sort of branching tree (I don’t know how to explain it.) But in other words, instead of endlessly cycling through those issues in my mind we laid out the problems on paper “systematically”– (I don’t know what the right word for it is) We tried to get at the root of the problem and work from there. She only came that one day but I am so grateful- it helped me to begin to conquer those run-away thoughts. I found that you honestly can stop thinking of things if you train your mind to do it. Whenever I start thinking negative thoughts that bring me down I focus on something else- I either start to “dream” about an upcoming event that I am excited about- or how I would decorate a room differently, or I read, write someone a note, or go and help someone. There are so many hurting people out there. You could even do something as simple as packing up a small box of canned food and bring it to the local food pantry.
I know I’ve rambled on- hope you can make sense out of it! I wish you the best!~ Stephanie
Sam, I myself suffered from thoughts of worry for many years, so I appreciate what you are going through and applaud you for trying to get some help.
Here is a wonderful video clip about our thoughts, why we have them, and what we can do to change them. I truly hope it might help in some way in finding an answer to your question. Best wishes to you in the future. Peace…..River
I did not want to take medication for my anxiety either. I started researching natural anxiety cures and came across a great technique and am so happy I took a chance on it. You can read more about my experience on my blog if you are interested.
