Pass That Exam Easily and Confidently with Test Anxiety Coaching, a New Service for Students and Professionals
St. Paul, Minnesota (PRWEB) October 2, 2009
With college entrance exams like the SAT and the ACT just around the corner, Kalli Matsuhashi, a licensed therapist in Eagan, Minnesota is offering a new service specifically designed to help people who struggle with test anxiety. Test anxiety is a major roadblock for many students, whether they are seeking admission to college or graduate school, or are professionals seeking to advance their careers by taking professional licensing or certification exams. The American Test Anxiety Association (AMTAA) estimates that nearly 20% of students struggle with severe test anxiety. Few schools offer much guidance beyond basic tips for test taking, as instruction is focused primarily on content rather than easing frayed nerves.
“I’ve heard so many people I work with talk about their struggles with test taking or they may have a child who is struggling with anxiety about a test. I wanted to offer a structured approach to helping people in this situation because it fills a very important need,” says Kalli.
Test anxiety coaching is done over a series of four sessions, the primary focus being to help reduce the anxiety that makes test taking so difficult for some people. This is done by assessing the individual’s learning style and by teaching a range of relaxation and visualization techniques.
Learning styles vary widely from person to person, and can have a significant impact on how well a person is able to prepare for tests as well as how she or he will do during an exam. Kalli will work with the student to determine the ways in which the individual’s learning style may be hindering test preparation efforts. She then assists in making the needed changes so that the individual is more likely to succeed in passing.
Kalli also teaches several relaxation and visualization techniques to help the student remain calm and improve performance on the test. Visualization has a wide range of applications (e.g., improving or coping with health issues, improving sports performance, reducing the symptoms of anxiety disorders), and has been shown in numerous studies to improve retention, recall, and test scores.
The cost of the 4-session coaching package is $ 450 (4, 60-minute sessions). Sessions are also available on a one-off basis for $ 125 for 1 hour or $ 175 for 90 minutes.
